The Beauty in the Scrap
Why we're Falling in Love
With Collage Night
At Manifest Dreams, we often talk about building a legacy, but sometimes the most powerful legacies are built from the things others throw away.
This week, we gathered for our first ever Collage Night led by local illustrator Angel Lazear. It wasn’t just an art class; it was a room full of people rediscovering the magic of the handmade.
A Lesson in Resourcefulness
Angel’s journey into this medium didn’t come from perfect supplies, but from a deep respect for the materials already in her hands.
“I started to collect a bunch of paper scraps and misprints of my art that didn’t feel right to throw away I believe strongly in using everything around me to be as resourceful as possible”
By turning those misprints into a community event, Angel showed us that nothing is truly wasted if you have the vision to rearrange it.
More Than Just Scissors and Glue
What made the night feel so personal was the mix of people professional artists tackling long delayed projects alongside people who hadn’t made art in years.
“I’d love for collage night to inspire non-artists to try a new creative outlet… I’m really hoping we all make time for creativity every week.”
There is a specific kind of peace that comes from creating art in each other’s presence. It turns the solitary act into a shared heartbeat.
Growing the Collective
One of the most moving parts of the night was seeing the community canvas donated by Just Be (@the_sublime_in_all). It became a symbol of connection.
“It’s beautiful how many people are meeting through the collage community that may have never crossed paths otherwise.”
This is how a movement starts one scrap of paper and one new friendship at a time.
